The National Association of Emergency Vehicle Technicians, Inc.
(NAEVT), a not-for-profit organization, was formed in 1991 based on an overwhelming need
to address issues of the everyday mechanic/technician. Since that time, NAEVT has provided
the platform to network with technicians across the continent in an effort to improve the
quality of emergency vehicle maintenance. Today its membership base reaches over 2,200
fire, EMS and police technicians, supervisors and leading industry professionals. |
|
 |
NAEVT has aligned
itself with the Emergency Vehicle Technician Certification Commission to help
elevate the standards of emergency vehicle maintenance and the Emergency Vehicle
Technician Profession through the Commission's EVT certification/testing programs.
Certification of technicians and input into the development of standards, rules and
guidelines relating to emergency vehicle maintenance are of utmost importance. NAEVT has
and will continue to focus on those issues of the technician as they pertain to safety,
education, legislation and the application of everyday maintenance on all emergency
apparatus and equipment. |
|
 |
Seminars and
workshops facilitated by NAEVT are presented by leading industry professionals
during the year. These extensive, in-depth educational opportunities, designed
specifically for the technician, are directed toward EVT certification. State-of-the-art
technology and information offers assistance in the everyday maintenance of emergency
apparatus... standing by its motto: Professionalism Through Training. |
|
 |
Through the
networking efforts of NAEVT and its membership, the awareness level of the need
for properly maintained emergency vehicles has grown rapidly, and is becoming more
accepted - in some cases mandated - in municipal departments and the private sector. This
is evidenced by the number of technicians certified in their progression through both the
EVT Certification Commission and the Automotive Service Excellence programs over the last
few years. |
|
 |
An important
component of NAEVT's mission is to promote and support the profession of
Emergency Vehicle Technicians by facilitating training, education, and legislation, and to
provide a national and international voice for the technician. In the fall of 1994, NAEVT
was integral in proposing that the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) develop a
standard for Fire Apparatus Preventive Maintenance (the Maintenance Standard), and in
1995, convinced the NFPA to further develop a standard for Emergency Vehicle Technician
Professional Qualifications (the Qualification Standard). Several NAEVT officials have
participated in the development of these standards, which are scheduled to "hit the
streets" in the year 2000. |
|
 |
NAEVT enhances its
network by maintaining a number of individuals on its Board of Directors who are
members of the Fire Apparatus Manufacturers' Association (FAMA), the Fire and Emergency
Manufacturers and Services Association (FEMSA), and the Congressional Fire Services
Institute (CFSI). In 1996, NAEVT was accepted as a member of CFSI's National Advisory
Committee. |

 |
NAEVT's top priority
is your success as an Emergency Vehicle Technician. |
